Guardians Past President Matthew Solomon and his wife Marion, found a new way to give back to the community. Five years ago, they formed a synagogue:

Bayit Shelanu for High Holy Days to appeal to unaffiliated Jews. Their son-in-law is the popular Rabbi Jan Goldstein, who for many years, taught at Abraham Joshua Heschel Day School in Northridge, before retiring to become a best-selling novelist. The cost for High Holy Day services is a nominal $60 a session and no one is turned away for lack of funds. It’s located on the UCLA campus and last year some 450 people attended Yom Kippur services. Find information on line at (“Our Home”).

The family of Howard and Jackie Banchik, Randy and Jannell Banchik, and Tim and Anissa Siegel has returned from a 12 day trip to Israel in celebration of the B’nai Mitzvot of Avery Siegel and Megan Banchik, and Jackie and Howard’s 45th wedding anniversary. Highlights of the fabulous family adventure included visits to Israel’s major cities, a stay on Lake Kinneret and rafting down the Jordan River, a day climbing Masada and floating in the Dead Sea and an exciting visit to an IDF base. The children particularly enjoyed the Old City in Jerusalem, playing on the beach in Tel Aviv and learning incredible history at Jaffa, Masada, the Golan Heights, and Caesarea.
